Hello Everyone! I am going to do my very first real food post to see if I like food blogging. You all can be honest and tell me if it sucks or not.

I dropped my camera so excuse the iphone quality photos ^^;

The Soup is a Liar

Don't you just hate it when a soup taste delicious only to realize its so bad for you when you look at the nutritional content?

This soup is delicious, I love the taste of spices mix with tomato and cheese, like gouda (which I don't know how to pronounce, is it GOOD-da, or GOI-da or gow-DA?). But I HATE deceptive nutrition practices. Please don't give me "Serving Cup: 1 cup", when the entire soup is 2 cups and the whole world knows you will eat this entire soup in one setting.

Because the nutrition guide is deceptive, we have to double up all the numbers because you WILL eat this in one setting. When we double for the truth, this soup will take 90% of your saturated fat, 40% of your cholesterol, and 66% of your sodium intakes for the entire day. Those numbers are crazy high, I was thirsty for water after I finish the video below due to the very high salt content.

But lies taste good

Lady, you're mouth is open. Is your mouth open because you really want this soup or is your mouth open because you're so surprised over how bad for you this soup is?

Video Review

The answer is both. And yes, I ate the entire bowl and enjoyed every moment.

xoxo,
Emmy

Disclosure: Got this at Amazon. It should be available in most groceries stores.

Trying out something different today, organic gluten-free cereal! (if this idea is unsuccessful, expect less of these type of posts! :P)

I hate when cereal boxes show you one thing, and then you see another:

Nature's Path Crunchy Vanilla Sunrise Cereal

I love Nature's Path, however with this cereal I am not disappointed, but I am not impressed either.

First off, if you take a look at the pictures, you see will see a good mix of Corn, Rice, Flax, Quinoa, Buckwheat & Amaranth. However, it appears that when Nature's Path change the look on their boxes, they also change their formula. Mines was about 70% cornmeal, 30% everything else.

Because mines was 70% cornmeal, the cereal DID taste like vanilla but it had a cornmeal aftertaste. If you take a long time with your cereal, slowly the vanilla transfers onto the milk, and the cereal mostly take like cornmeal.

Now if you like the taste of corn, that's fine. But I was expecting more flavors particularly the flax and amaranth, but those flavors were lost in the mix.

This product IS however 100% organic except for natural vanilla flavor, sea salt, and tocopherols (natural vitamin E). Compare to other cereals, it is low in calories (110), contains no cholesterol, and is high in fiber (12% of your daily values). However, because it is organic with very little added to it, it is low in nutrition compare to other non-organic cereals such as special K. It only has 4% iron (surprisingly, Vitamin E is not listed as a nutrition even though it is listed as an ingredient).

Other pros of the cereal is that it contains 0.15g of Omega 3 per serving, which is 11% of the recommended daily value of 1.3g

It is also gluten-free for those who can't consume gluten as well as certified USDA organic. My cereal box expired Nov 02 2012.

The box says that Nature's Path change their boxes by making their packages smaller to reduce 10% of their impact on the planet by saving on water, energy and paperboard. However, I am also 100% convinced that their also change their formula to include more of the cheaper cornmeal and include less of the more expensive ingredients.

Oreo Funfetti Cupcakes
Yield: 24
Ingredients:
For cupcakes:
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs, at room temperature
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup of sprinkles
1 cup crushed Oreos
24 whole oreo cookies
For frosting:
2 1/2 cups heavy cream
3 1/2 tablespoons sugar
6 Oreo cookies, finely crushed in food processor
24 Oreos for the top of each cupcake
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Line 2 (1/2 cup-12 capacity) muffin tins with cupcake papers. Place a whole oreo at the bottom of each cupcake.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the flours. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Add half of the flour mixture and half of the milk and mix. Add in remaining flour and milk and mix until batter is smooth.
  5. Add in sprinkles and crushed oreos and mix into batter. Carefully spoon the batter into the cupcake liners, filling them about 3/4 full. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until tops are golden and a cake tester inserted into the center of the cupcake comes out clean.
  6. Cool cupcakes before frosting.
  7. While cupcakes cool, make the frosting. While cupcakes are cooling make the frosting. For the frosting, in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, combine the heavy cream and sugar. Beat on medium-high speed until the whipped cream holds stiff peaks. Crush 6 oreo cookies in a food processor (if you don’t own one, you should finely crush the oreos into small crumbs or else the cookies will get stuck in the piping bag or piping tip). Gently fold in the cookie crumbs with a spatula. Frost as desired (I used the Wilton 1M tip). Then top each cupcake with an oreo cookie.
